BiteLens — Privacy Policy

BiteLens ("we", "the app") provides AI-assisted calorie and macronutrient estimates from photos of your meals. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices.
Not a medical device. BiteLens offers nutrition and wellness guidance only. It does not diagnose, treat, or prevent any condition. Calorie and macro figures are estimates, not medical or dietary advice.
What we collect
- Account data: your email address and a securely hashed password (scrypt). We never store plaintext passwords.
- Nutrition profile: the goal, height, weight, age range, activity level, and dietary preferences you enter during onboarding, used to calculate your calorie and macro targets.
- Meal scans & diary: photos you choose to analyze and the resulting foods, portions, calories, macros, and diary entries. Photos are sent to our analysis backend to be processed by our AI vision provider (Anthropic Claude) and are not used to train any model.
- Subscription status: your entitlement tier (free / pro / coach), provided by Apple via RevenueCat.
What we do NOT collect
- We do not sell your data. We do not show third-party ads. We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not access your Apple Health data unless you explicitly enable Apple Health sync.
How data is stored
- The app works local-first: your profile, scans, and diary are stored on your device. If you create an account, they are also synced to our backend so you can use multiple devices.
- Each account's data is isolated and accessible only with your authentication token.
Apple Health
Apple Health sync is optional and off until you turn it on. With your permission, BiteLens reads weight and activity to personalize your plan, and can write nutrition and energy data back to Apple Health. You can revoke Health access at any time in iOS Settings.
Third parties
- Anthropic (Claude): processes scan images to produce nutrition analysis. See Anthropic's privacy policy.
- RevenueCat + Apple: process subscription purchases and entitlements. We never receive your card details.
Your choices
- Delete your data: "Reset all data" (Profile) clears local data; deleting your account removes server-side data. Contact support to request full deletion.
- Camera & Photos: permission is requested only when you scan; you can revoke it in iOS Settings.
- Apple Health: optional and off until you toggle it on.
Children
BiteLens is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
